Brief
The aim of this competition, held by the Municipality of Sparta for the design of a “Trade Mark”, had multiple characteristics.
“The logo should reflect the historic, spiritual, geographical, natural and cultural identity of the Municipality of Sparta and should highlight the region as an attractive tourist destination for the Greek and international market. The logo will be used by the City Council for all activities (advertisement, communication, newsletter, etc.), as well as in various official applications (letters, signs, flags, stamps, website, etc.). It had to serve efficiently both the official and the tourist/commercial purposes. The logo would include an artistic and a word part (slogan), would have the name of the Municipality and would be able to appear with or without the slogan”.

These three concepts are interrelated since one entails the other in a complex of relations and co-dependencies. This needs to be depicted in the design approach of the logo, where one pattern will complete the other and will depend on it, creating a single cohesive synthesis with the same technique and aesthetics. For the conceptual depiction, a direct visual language was used, revealing values and messages un-weathered by time. The style of the logo had to be aligned with the Laconic culture, traditionally representing the wisdom of the concise speech.
