Design
The design of the packaging had to be developed based on specific commercial and technical standards.
The inspirations driving the image of the packages were luxury, purity, innovation, uniqueness and biological treatment of the production as main characteristics of the design.
The aim was a high aesthetics product, using minimal formation and immediate visual language. The 3 products differentiate by the use of a light color palette.
Also the visual result should be something different from the usual shapes of carton boxes but at the same time the basic material had to be paper.
Challenge
The biggest challenge in the design development was giving the carton the a shape of a water drop while maintaining very low production cost, considering the final product.
The key in completing the project was the design of the die cut based on which the cutting mold would be constructed for cutting and shaping of the paper, with just one press in the cutting press.
The production process of the package did not include carton gluer machine, therefore the design for the package closing should be simple, quick and with effective “mechanical locks”.
In particular the carton box is consisted of 2 parts. The undivided front and back cover along with the bottom and the side section. Both parts were cut with the same cutting mold. Because of the demanding precision in closing, the middle of the side section (bottom of the final box) was shaped in order to operate as a guide for the locking position along with the undivided front and back side, therefore it was effectively securing the perfect closing between both parts.
The basic element for completing the project was the absolute symmetry of the shape and the position of the mechanical auto locks along the perimeter of the paper. That secured the uniform smoothing of the paper tensions but also reserved the harmonic visual effect.
Of the same importance was also the correct specification of the printing direction and cutting along with the “nerves” of the paper, necessary requirement in order for the paper not to fold in places where it should bend in low range curves (sides) in which no creasing should be done.
